suck it new york (5-oct-25)
Yesterday was a GOOD day. A nail-biting stressful afternoon in the stands watching Shed Jr. Rugby get an important 40-38 win. He even scored a try, which is an added bonus.
What else? Oh, right. The AL East Champion Toronto Blue Jays had a game yesterday. I had forgotten how much I loathe Yankee fans. Red Sox fans too, come to think about it. Keep running your mouths. Your tears and suffering will nourish and sustain us. 10-1 Jays. Again, keep running your mouths.
Nervous about today of course, but quietly confident now that we have one in the bag. Manshed’s key to baseball success? It’s the same as it was when Shed Jr. played ball. Get the first out when playing the field. That’s it, that's all.
Big NFL day too. Survivor Pools are whittling down; both at roughly 50%. We haven’t seen the monumental pool-clearing upset yet, but there have been several of significance such as the Rams on Thursday Night, which took out 20-25% of each pool I’m in. I’m on the Arizona Cardinals this week in both pools. Risky - the Titans will win at some point - but sticking with it. I will not share Manshed’s key to Survivor Pool success. Partially because I don’t want to and partially because I am not certain I know what it is yet.
Go Jays.
bring on the yankees (3-Oct-25)
Writing this one day before Game 1 of the AL Division series between the Jays and Yankees .
I didn't want the Yankees to win. My sense was (and still is) that the Red Sox were the easier opponent. Perhaps this will play out ok in spite of that. Not uncommon that the opponent you wish for ends up eliminating you. Either way, stressful baseball starts tomorrow. Along with Shed Jr. rugby match, NFL football and the start of hockey season it's a wild time of year.
I'll take the Jays in 5 games. More of a wish than a prediction. Yankees have a good line-up, and can't help but feel that the Jays a have been punching above their weight class for 2/3 of a year. Bo Bichette's potential return is BIG. He's needs to be back in the line-up, ideally playing SS. If he plays at DH, that puts Springer back in the OF, presumably at the expense of one of Barger, Clement, Lukes. I think I'd go with Lukes in right, Springer in left and Barger at third. Clement to the bench, which he doesn't deserve, but not sure of the alternatives. And of course Vladdy, who will get the full Mitch Marner treatment from fans and media if he doesn't come through. This guy should be a lock for 40 HR and 100 RBI every single year, never mind that he is the 2nd highest paid position player in the game. What an apathetic, un-clutch 2nd half of the season he has had. Maybe tht's the silver lining here... Top seed in the AL and have gotten there despite a truly pedestrian performance from the team's best player. I also don't think the bullpen is as bad as it looks, although Hoffman can be scary. I am good with starters Bieber, Gausman... anxious about Yesavage, and no idea what to make of Max Scherzer. But it's go time, and it will play out as it plays out. Go Jays.
whatcha watchin'? (3-OCT-25)
Peacemaker Season 2 - it's pretty good. Tim Meadows has been a tremendous addition to the cast, Vigilante is funny despite being underutilised so far and thankfully Eagly has made it.
Invasion Season 3 - terrible. Not a single (ok maybe one) likable character
Tulsa King Season 3 - absolutely atrocious. It's a Denis favorite
Slow Horses Season 5 - this is probably our favorite show of all, but the season is only 2 episodes in, and season 5 got crucified on Rotten Tomoatoes
Only Murders in the Building Season 5 - getting a little tired and a lot of debate around Selena Gomez appearance
Gen V Season 2 - really good, although we in the Shed are split if better than The Boys. I think yes, better than The Boys just because it doesn't feel the need to be so excessive all the time like the Boys does. Although that could change at any time.
On Deck: Blue Lights (season 3) and Karen Pirie (season 2) - a couple BBC cop/detective shows that Mark and I quite like. Billy the Kid (season 3) for Denis and I, but I am nervous (not as nervous as playoff baseball) because we all know it only ends one way - a season long build-up waiting for a likable character to die and end the tale.
In theaters? Nadda. What a catastrophe. Are there any good movies left? How do these theaters stay in business? Grace Randolph opines about the need for more premium screens but what on earth would we watch on them? I keep saying "it can't possibly get worse" and then it does.
